![]() ![]() In the center of the modern city, on West Nanjing Rd, conveniently equipped with its own metro station. If you're looking for some traditional spirituality, this is probably as good as it's going to get in Shanghai. But it has seen a renaissance of sorts, attracting lots of worshippers, and maintaining a small community of monks. It's set in an unexpected quarter of the city, around the corner from Gucci and Hugo Boss shops, and surrounded by shiny office towers. Tourists, many of them provincial Chinese on a package trip to the big, flock here in droves. There's the old town, which over the years has gotten a Disney-like feel, with 'Ye Olde Qing' style shops and teahouses. Shanghai doesn't have much in the way of traditional Chinese culture. Stores at guangzhou and korea underground shopping mall are better places to shop.A very traditional Chinese temple, surrounded by gleaming towers and glittering brands. Always always asked for the price again before handing over your money. And i had already gave her the RMB100 notes which i don't think she will return me. I didn't argue with her because its hers against my words. I asked her wasn't the shoe RMB79? She said no, its RMB89. I gave her a RMB100 note and she return me RMB11. I was quite tired by then and so agreed to buy without checking other stores. ![]() I asked for a discount but the staff said its the lowest and asked me to go other store to compare. I asked the sales staff how much for the pair of shoe. I wanted to buy a pair of shoes for my sister and went to a store at level 1. When you asked for the price of the item, always repeat it again to the sales staff before payment. You can find the same item in different stores but their price can be abit different. Its ok to say no or don't want if approach by some random sales staff and don't look back. But for the price, some things got to compromise. Generally most things are cheaper than areas and quality is no good too. The other tourists were rushing back to their tour bus. Mum bought a pop corn at RMB 40.Īfter the performance, we decided to purchase their DVD at RMB 150 as souvenir. We were allowed to eat while watching this performance. The number of audiences was like less than half of its full capacity, and mainly tourists. Luckily, we were on time to watch the performance and the show did not start promptly too. It took us at least half an hour to find the exact location of this show through asking around, after alighting at Shanghai Circus World train station. We purchased the ticket online and collected the hard-copy ticket on-site by exchanging details of our purchase. My first encounter with acrobatic performances was through television, but watching it live feels real and magnified, and as a form of cultural exposure to Chinese arts. It is rather expensive, undeniably, but completely worthy as it can be an eye-opener for those who haven’t watched it before. One of the highlights in Shanghai is to visit this memorable acrobatic performance by their locals. Now that we have seen the temple I will only go back when my parents visit, I do not need to see it again. It wasn't too busy (four days before the new lunar year) so it was very pleasant to walk around. Same thing for my wife (she isn't local either) luckily we had cash (can't remember the last time we carried any so we were sent inside and off into the room at the right, under the bell tower, which seems to be a place just for donations there was a walled area in the middle with coins and notes, like a dry wishing well. That was after trying to buy tickets - scanned a QR code, requested a text verification but it never came. Having seen the temple from outside on a number of occasions (living in in Shanghai since summer 2020) we finally got around to being in the area when it is open so we went in. ![]() It say here that 2-3 hours is needed we were there for less than one and that was fine. Tickets are 50RMB - open daily 7am to 5pm according to Smart Shanghai). ![]()
